RESTART SHORTCUTS Question-:I have two computer ,one is a Pentium -200 and the other is P-III 700.I was told that the two computer can be attached through a null moderm cable.Accoridngly I have dont so using a 9-pin cable. When i run the direct cable connection from Accessoreis they both get connected ,after whihc the guets computer ask for the name of the host computer.When the name is keyed in a message that no such computer is found on a message that no such computer is found on the network flashes .But from the start Menu through the find computer option,if i key in the name of the computer,it dispalysthat computer icon. This,the other computer is unable to find .Even after reversing the roles of the computer the problem exists .Also the computer icon is not displayed in network neighbourhood .Please advice me.
Answer-:For Direct cable conection (DCC) to work properly you need to do the following: 1.Install DCC on both the computers through Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Windows setup tab ,and select the Communication option on Detaisland select DCC.
2.Install client for Microsft Networks and enable file print sharing through the network neighbourhood icon on the desktop.Right click on networkneighbourhood icon and select properties .Click on Add ,select Client and add client for Microsoft network ,from the file and print sharing option enable it.
3.For DCC,you can work with the net-BEUI or IPX/SPX protocol.Just install one of these protocol from the network properties (Add protocol).If you are adding TCP/IP you will need to assign an IP address ADD the dial up adapter also from the Add adapter option.
4.Connect the null moderm on the COM ports.
5. share a directory or folders on the computer . Start DCC from Start->Program->Accessories->Direct cable connection. you have the option of connecting as a host or the client.The problem could lie here because the client can see all the shared filders on the host,but reverse is not possible. If you get the verifying username and password ,it means there is no problem with the port or cable .Also ensure that when you log on window during startup you havent hit cancel button.
